Berlin Ghost Town Trail

The Berlin Ghost Town Trail is a short, fascinating loop through one of Nevada's best-preserved 19th-century mining settlements at Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park in central Nevada. The town of Berlin was established in 1897 during a silver and gold rush that brought hundreds of miners to the remote Shoshone Range, and at its peak the settlement boasted a mill, assay office, and numerous residences that housed a bustling mining community.

When the ore played out in the early 1900s, Berlin was largely abandoned and left to the elements, but the combination of the high desert climate and the park's preservation efforts have kept many of the original structures remarkably intact. The 0.5-mile loop passes wooden cabins, the ruins of the stamp mill used to process ore, and various outbuildings that offer an evocative window into the harsh realities of frontier mining life in the late 1800s.

Interpretive signs along the route provide historical context about the town's residents, the mining operations, and the eventual decline of the settlement. The trail is nearly flat with only 50 feet of elevation change, making it suitable for all ages and fitness levels. The $10 per vehicle park entry fee applies. Leashed dogs are welcome on this trail. The ghost town is located at an elevation of approximately 6,500 feet in the Shoshone Range, so temperatures can be cool even in summer months, and visitors should come prepared for variable mountain weather.
