Vedauwoo Loop

The Vedauwoo Loop is the classic tour of this iconic Wyoming climbing and hiking destination, providing a comprehensive circuit through the full diversity of terrain that makes Vedauwoo one of the most beloved outdoor recreation areas in the Rocky Mountain West. The trail visits all of the major granite tor formations while traversing the surrounding elk meadows and aspen groves that provide essential contrast to the dramatic stone architecture.

Large bull elk are commonly encountered in the meadow sections, particularly in September during the rut when their bugling echoes dramatically off the surrounding granite walls. Mule deer, pronghorn, and occasional moose also inhabit the area. The Vedauwoo Loop is best undertaken in morning or evening when the light rakes across the granite formations at low angles, illuminating the crystalline texture and casting deep shadows that emphasize the sculptural quality of these extraordinary rocks. Late afternoon thunderstorms are common in summer; planning accordingly ensures a safe and enjoyable experience.
