Cheyenne Bottoms is one of the most important wetland complexes in interior North America, providing critical stopover habitat for millions of shorebirds migrating along the Central Flyway each spring. The access trail from Wilson State Park provides viewing access to seasonal wetland areas where species including long-billed dowitchers, white-rumped sandpipers, and American avocets concentrate in impressive numbers. Whooping cranes occasionally stop during migration, drawing birders from across the continent.
